Finally, my first post of the new year. I hope you all had a fabulous time over the holidays. We kept it pretty low key and overdosed on massive amounts of Lost and Gilmore Girls.

I can see why I stopped watching Lost when S3 was airing because it started off really slow. I really wish I’d have stuck it out though because it did start rockin’ again. And S4 was freaking awesome, especially the episode The Constant. I was all but biting my nails in anticipation of what was going to happen next. The one funny thing about re-watching everything from the beginning again is that characters that I initially loved, I ended up not really caring about at all and characters that I was kind of iffy about I ended up just absolutely loving. Upon a second viewing, my favorites are Hurley (always loved him), Desmond (so many amazing layers), Charlie (who knew?) and Ben (so good at being evil). I always liked Hurley because he was like a giant teddy bear that you just wanted to keep with you at all times. He made me and Aidan both cry quite a few times. When Hurley is sad, he makes everyone sad. *pets him* Desmond + Penny = epic love! Henry Ian Cusick is amazing as Desmond and the connection he and Penny have is, well, epic and the damned writers had better let them be together until the end of time. Charlie had his flaws, but all in all, he had a really good heart and was a good person and I really enjoyed watching his story unfold. As for Ben, I didn’t really care for him or about him, but I did enjoy watching to see what nasty trick he would throw out next. He was so manipulative and deceitful, but ended up being honest and helpful at times too. A very interesting mix. Yay for the new season starting soon!

I’m love, love, loving re-watching Gilmore Girls. It’s such fun and has a huge heart. I want my own Luke. *sigh*

I officially gave up on trying to finish reading Breaking Dawn. I left off about 570-ish pages in and just looked up spoilers for the remainder of the story. I’m not one to do that with books, but I couldn’t take it anymore. It was such a piece of garbage and I can truly say now that I did in fact grow to hate it. I’m glad I didn’t spend anymore time on it either because from the spoilers I found (from where I left off through the end of the story) I most likely would have hurled the stupid book into a wall. The other books might have been full of cheese and LOL moments, but at least they were enjoyable and I actually cared about the characters in them. This one just frustrated me from about page 100 on and that makes me kinda sad. Oh well, I’m done with it now so I really should stop complaining.

Last complaint of the day…I spent all day at home waiting on the cable company to come fix the internet and cable. It took them about 2.5 hours, but all is well again. Apparently one of my neighbors took it upon themselves to take my cable and hook it up to their satellite and that’s what knocked everything out. I don’t know what they were thinking, especially considering cable doesn’t work with satellite. The thing that irks me about these neighbors taking my cable is the fact that we get along really well and they have always been so nice. I would have even let them watch my TV if they needed entertainment. Stupid neighbors!

R.I.P. Bettie Page. My poor dear Riikka will be so heartbroken. *sniff*

In other non-sad and totally random news…

I’m totally shipping Chloe and Davis after catching up on this season of Smallville. I’m not sure if the show is actually interesting again or if has more to do with the fact that Sam Witwer rocks and his acting abilities trump those of every other person on the show. Or maybe I’ve just been mesmerized by his hotness again? Whatever the case, I’m definitely diggin’ him being on the show. I know his character is ultimately evil, but he brings a soul to it and I can’t wait to see how it all plays out. My one big complaint about this season is that the effects are especially bad. Have they always been this cheap and cheesy and maybe I just didn’t realize it? I haven’t watched since mid-S6, so maybe I just forgot that they were so cheap? Or maybe they just ran out of money? Whatever it is, the effects are laughably bad. I can look past that for the time being though. I also never realized that Tom Welling couldn’t act his way out of a wet paper bag. He might actually be more wooden than Keanu Reeves and I didn’t think that was possible. They are both quite pretty, but that’s all either one of them has going on. Sorry, guys.

Can you say gross? What is wrong with some women?

This Edward doll is creepy and kinda gay looking, but not in a pretty gay way. This one is much better, but still a little odd looking.

I’m not really loving the new WP dashboard. I’m sure I’ll get used to it eventually though.

I’m about 500 pages into Breaking Dawn now and it is finally getting better. Maybe I won’t end up disliking it as much as I was as of my last post. I’m so thankful to be out of Jacob’s POV. He’s such a cry baby. I still hate Rosalie, but there are still a lot of pages left to read, so maybe she’ll grow on me. I will be a good girl and refrain from saying anything else though because I’m not sure how much more Mycah has had a chance to read. I will say this though, I am truly sick of seeing the word murmured in this book. Sick of it! It’s like nails on a freaking chalkboard at this point and I’m dreading seeing it used another 999,999 times or so. Find a new word Stephenie Meyer! Ugh!

I had a dream about Mike the other night. Nothing meaningful or sexy about it, he was just in it and it kinda ripped another hole in my heart. I really thought I was beyond this, but clearly I’m not. This is what not having closure does to you. Your emotions sneak up on you in your dreams when you least expect it and then you are left to ponder what it all means. Why did he show up in my dreams now? Did something happen to him? Why should I even care when he acted like such a dick? Am I still just upset that he vanished and moved on without so much as a word? It’s frustrating because I do still love him, but I refuse to let it put a strain on me again because my heart can’t take that. I can’t be a zombie again. I won’t. With any luck it’ll all be out of my brain in a few days and I won’t have to think about it anymore.

And now for meaningless and non-personal stuffle…

I’m creeped out by this Keri Russell photoshoot. She looks sickly and gross.

I’m really tired of seeing Heidi Montag and her douchebag verywhere I turn. They’re on every gossip blog known to man, they’re in the grocery story, they’re in the bookstore, they’re just everywhere and they need to go away. I think I might be more annoyed at the fact that I know who they are just because they are such blatant media whores.

Now for more Breaking Dawn commentary. I’m about 300 pages in now and yeah, I’m still not diggin’ it. At least now I know why Alice hasn’t been around much. Stupid reason too, but whatever. Die Rosalie! You’re such a bitch! Ugh! Jacob, why such a whiner? Double ugh! Did SM write this book specifically for Team Jacob? There’s just WAY TOO MUCH of him and the fact that I’m still reading things from his POV is really bugging me. The more I read, the more I dislike this story. If she wanted to switch up POVs, why didn’t she maybe write various chapters in other POVs like Edward, Carlisle, Esme, Rosalie, etc? At this point, that would have been way better than what I’m currently reading. Perhaps I should just go ahead and admit to myself that I just don’t like the book. I’m truly hoping that it will get better and I will like it more by the end, but so far, it’s just not doing it for me.

I’ve been contemplating learning Russian. I realize … Continue reading →

So guess how tall my kid is now? Are you ready for this? He’s 5’7″. He’s only 11 and I’m so not ready for him to sprout into a 6 footer at 15.

I’ve been contemplating learning Russian. I realize that Russian is actually quite useless to me in my daily life, but learning a second language would expand my brain and could be fun. Besides, everyone else usually learns French, German, Italian or Spanish whether or not they will use it in their daily lives, so why not step outside the norm? If I don’t like it, I can always try out one of the easier languages instead.

Every single book I’ve read lately has used the word “murmured” a ridiculous number of times and it’s bugging me. I’m starting to hate it almost as much as I hate the word “succulent” and I really, really hate that word. There are a lot of other words that could be used in place of “murmured” and then “murmured” could be used more sparingly. Do the authors not realize they use it so much? Do their editors not catch it? Does it not bother anyone else?

So I’m about 200 pages into Breaking Dawn and I’m still not into it. I mean, I’m into it in the sense that I need to find out how the story concludes, but I’m not really enjoying it and that is disappointing me.

I don’t know how I feel about reading so much of the book from Jacob’s POV. I just don’t really care that much about Jacob anyway and having him tell me what all is going on is just kinda meh. For those of you who have read it, does he tell the rest of the story here on out or does it switch back to Bella? If it is him, does he at least become more likable?

Let’s move on to Rosalie next, shall we? I never liked her before and now I really don’t like her at all. She such a self-serving bitch. Maybe this is all an act and things will change, but she bugs severely in this book. *pokes her with a stick*

There is like zero Alice, Jasper, Emmett and Esme since the wedding. I seriously hope they come into play again later on because I like them and kinda miss them being an active part in the story. At least Carlisle is still in play because Edward is a wreck and I want Rosalie dead at this point and there are still over 500 pages to go.

I hope you all had a fabulous Thanksgiving. We had a great time and for the first time ever, everything that I cooked turned out awesome. I thought I’d share a couple of the great recipes I found in case any of you wanted to try them.

Autumn Potato Gratin
These potatoes are probably the fattiest thing that I have ever cooked in my entire life, but they totally rocked.

Awesome Sausage, Apple and Cranberry Stuffing
This might be the single yummiest thing that I’ve ever cooked even though it wasn’t my own recipe. The only changes I made were these: I left out the liver because eww; used a honeycrisp apple because they taste better; used all fresh herbs instead of dried because they taste better and are prettier; used chicken broth instead of turkey stock; and just baked them in a nice glass dish instead of stuffing it inside a turkey. You could totally make this a vegetarian dish too if you wanted by using veggie broth and veggie turkey or veggie crumbles or faux chicken or something like that. Totally yummy dish that would go great with pretty much anything.

In non-food news…

I’m starting to get more and more stoked about Wolverine. I’m beyond thrilled that Gambit will finally be in a damned movie. Why he was left out until now, I will never understand. He was my favorite character from the comics and cartoon and he would have been a fabulous addition in the prior films. At least we finally get him and he’s being played by the wonderfully hot Taylor Kitsch to make things even better. No, he doesn’t look anything like we’re used to Gambit looking, but that doesn’t mean something won’t happen in the movie and make him a little closer to what we’re all used to. I’m personally just so happy that he’s in the film that I don’t really care what his hair and eyes look like.

I finished Shadow Kiss (Darie you have to read this and soon) last week and totally loved it. I can’t wait for the next one to come out. Must find out what happens with Rose next. I’m still totally shipping Rose and Adrian even though there isn’t a snowball’s chance in hell that they’ll end up together. I’m not a fanfic reader, but I’m totally on board for some R/A reading if any of you ever happen upon any.

I also polished off The Last Days over the weekend. I was a little disappointed in it at first and didn’t really start enjoying it until they introduced Minerva and Alana Ray and things started coming together a little more. I really got into it after that point though and couldn’t put it down because I had to see how everything continued to click into place. I enjoyed Peeps more but they are both good books and it’s better if you read them back to back so that the details of Peeps is still fresh in your mind.

For those of you who have read/are reading Scott Westerfeld books, which of his series should I pick up next? I’ve been wanting to read the Midnighters series for a while, but I’m tempted to read Uglies/Pretties/Specials because I think I’m one of the few people who haven’t read them yet.

I picked up Breaking Dawn again last night and hopefully I’ll finish it this time. It just doesn’t hold my attention quite like the others did. I’m only 150-ish pages in thus far though, so I can’t be too judgmental just yet.
