In the world of TV…
Lost continues to blow my mind. It’s so freaking good, but oh my how the time frames are confusing my poor brain.
Chuck is consistently funny as hell each week. I know it’s not everyone’s cup of tea, but it always has Aidan and I howling. We were all but rolling on the floor last night at some of the stuff that happened, like when Chuck goes to save the day, but trips and gets his foot caught in a window and breaks it while managing to create a diversion for Sarah and Casey. Priceless! I’m still waiting for Sarah and Chuck to have some hot sex at least once. They both love each other and can’t be together, but that doesn’t mean that they can’t get it on. Sure, it would probably be funny sex rather than super hot sex and it would make for awkward moments later down the road, but that would also make for more funny.
I’m still loving Dollhouse and so far ep 2 has been my favorite. For one, it had a whole lot of Matt Keeslar in it and anything with Matt in it is a good thing. He’s so dreamy even when he’s playing a creepy and super crazy killer. It’s had the strongest Echo story so far in terms of her adapting to her surroundings and doing what needed to be done to save herself since that wasn’t something that was programmed into her. Episode 3 had a bit of that too with her thinking for herself and pushing death in the face of the diva singer who only thought she wanted to die. Episode 4 wasn’t a strong episode all around, but I still found it to be enjoyable because of the other moving parts in the story. Sierra, Echo and Victor becoming a group is intriguing. This can’t end well for them since they aren’t supposed to develop friendships, but I think it’s interesting. I am intrigued as to why they keep sending Victor to Paul when he won’t stop his search for the Dollhouse. I am intrigued by Alpha (clearly alive) and how he’s doing what he’s doing on the outside. Does he have help? Why is Echo so important? Were they friends? Relatives? In love? Me wants to know!
In movie news…
We went to see Watchmen on Saturday and all in all I really loved it. I have not read the graphic novel yet, but I will do so very soon. I was super excited about the film and wanted to hold off on reading it because I didn’t want to compare the two in my head as I watched the film and inevitably not be able to fully enjoy the film. That being said, here are some of my likes and dislikes and yes, there are some spoilers…
Great opening sequence. It was so pretty and so well done and the music was perfectly perfect. Definitely one of my favorites of the past few years.
Rorschach! OK, my Rorschach like is really more Rorschach love. Jackie Earle Haley was freaking brilliant in this role. Definitely mine and Aidan’s favorite character of the entire film. He was brutal and sly and smart and just plain freaking awesome. I can’t imagine anyone being more perfect in the role. I even loved his creepy deep scratchy voice. I did not love his demise though. That made me sad.
Carla Gugino was gorgeous! Her pin up look was to die for pretty.
How is it possible that the awesomeness that is JDM filled the shoes of such a horrid character so well? Because he’s a fan-freaking-tastic actor! Next to Jackie Earle Haley’s performance, JDM’s was definitely a stand out. A horrifyingly scary and brutal stand out, but a stand out. He was up there in Otis Firefly territory and it’s hard to be in Otis territory because it’s pretty hard to be such a horrible person yet have a side to you that makes the viewers still somehow like you in some way.
Billy Crudup pre-Dr. Manhattan transformation was so cute and sweet. I almost cried when he was stuck in the room and exploded. It was sad.
Waaaaaay too much glowy blue penis post transformation. Cover that thing up, Dr. Manhattan! I know he doesn’t care if he’s covered or not because he really has no need for clothing or anything like that, but I didn’t need to see that much penis flopping around all throughout the film. I like men and everything, but penises are not pretty things, especially when they are just hanging there and flopping around when they walk. Glowing blue penises are even worse because they kind of scream “Hey! Look at me! I’m big and glowy and blue!” and you can’t not look at it.
Matthew Goode’s hair or shall I say wig. WTF? MG is actually a pretty hot guy with his normal hair, but with that weird blonde wig and the clothes that accompanied it, he looked like a big flaming homo rather than a kick ass superhero. Even in his costume he looked like a big ol’ queen because of that hair. Truly not a pretty site. I would have to tell my awesome gay boyfriends to stop and take a look in the mirror if any of them ever tried to go out into public looking like that.
Malin Akerman is super pretty, but she didn’t do much in the way of emoting and that would have come in super handy during her emotional scenes and her truly awkward make out scene and sex scene with Patrick Wilson. Speaking of the sex scene, it was kind of painful to watch. They both looked so uncomfortable with each other and it went on way too long and it wasn’t hot.
All in all, I was very happy with the film as a whole and would definitely like to see it again.
I literally laughed out loud about all of Matthew Goode’s part. Ah about the big ol’ queen, AHH! So true! And seriously, what was up with the willy? He wore a cloth thing when he was ginormous why couldn’t he then? Ahh And yes the sex scene was so awkward. You can definitely get the feeling it was meant to be with the song and “fire” thing, but I think it went to funny, more so than the makers intended. Same with Dr. Manhattan. Sometimes when I was watching (and Billy was doing a really good job) I was so taken out of the movie. Why couldn’t the director just pan up? And Malin wasn’t terrible (like some are saying) but she wasn’t a standout, and didn’t leave any impression at all. Unlike Carla who pin-up pretty indeed was wonderful, but even in her modern “old” days, was 10 x more electric than her. She should have had more scenes!
JDM was phenomenal but uber terrifying. I ditto that Otis comment whole heartedly, although Otis is oddly more likable because of his humor. In *my* opinion at least.
I definitely think Jackie was PHENOMENAL! My favorite for sure. At first I didn’t like his voice, it just sounded, forced, but after about 10 mins, I liked it and thought it was indeed cool. And the prison scene was awesome.
I really enjoyed the movie but yeah these minor gripes of course. Although I do think the movie got worse the later half of the film. Not that it was bad all together, but just not as strong as the first amazing opening scenes like the credits/funeral/anything with JDM. Maybe I didn’t like the last half as much because Jeffrey’s prettyness got replaced by too much man dong? Heh
Did you watch Lost tonight? It was amazing, I love this season so far:)
I’m a bit late on the reply, but yes and it was amazing. This season is rockin’!
