I hope you all had a fabulous Thanksgiving. We had a great time and for the first time ever, everything that I cooked turned out awesome. I thought I’d share a couple of the great recipes I found in case any of you wanted to try them.
Autumn Potato Gratin
These potatoes are probably the fattiest thing that I have ever cooked in my entire life, but they totally rocked.
Awesome Sausage, Apple and Cranberry Stuffing
This might be the single yummiest thing that I’ve ever cooked even though it wasn’t my own recipe. The only changes I made were these: I left out the liver because eww; used a honeycrisp apple because they taste better; used all fresh herbs instead of dried because they taste better and are prettier; used chicken broth instead of turkey stock; and just baked them in a nice glass dish instead of stuffing it inside a turkey. You could totally make this a vegetarian dish too if you wanted by using veggie broth and veggie turkey or veggie crumbles or faux chicken or something like that. Totally yummy dish that would go great with pretty much anything.
In non-food news…
I’m starting to get more and more stoked about Wolverine. I’m beyond thrilled that Gambit will finally be in a damned movie. Why he was left out until now, I will never understand. He was my favorite character from the comics and cartoon and he would have been a fabulous addition in the prior films. At least we finally get him and he’s being played by the wonderfully hot Taylor Kitsch to make things even better. No, he doesn’t look anything like we’re used to Gambit looking, but that doesn’t mean something won’t happen in the movie and make him a little closer to what we’re all used to. I’m personally just so happy that he’s in the film that I don’t really care what his hair and eyes look like.
I finished Shadow Kiss (Darie you have to read this and soon) last week and totally loved it. I can’t wait for the next one to come out. Must find out what happens with Rose next. I’m still totally shipping Rose and Adrian even though there isn’t a snowball’s chance in hell that they’ll end up together. I’m not a fanfic reader, but I’m totally on board for some R/A reading if any of you ever happen upon any.
I also polished off The Last Days over the weekend. I was a little disappointed in it at first and didn’t really start enjoying it until they introduced Minerva and Alana Ray and things started coming together a little more. I really got into it after that point though and couldn’t put it down because I had to see how everything continued to click into place. I enjoyed Peeps more but they are both good books and it’s better if you read them back to back so that the details of Peeps is still fresh in your mind.
For those of you who have read/are reading Scott Westerfeld books, which of his series should I pick up next? I’ve been wanting to read the Midnighters series for a while, but I’m tempted to read Uglies/Pretties/Specials because I think I’m one of the few people who haven’t read them yet.
I picked up Breaking Dawn again last night and hopefully I’ll finish it this time. It just doesn’t hold my attention quite like the others did. I’m only 150-ish pages in thus far though, so I can’t be too judgmental just yet.
Reese mentioned something about a Sausage stuffing thing and I was curious! This looks really good actually!
I wasn’t very excited for Wolverine until the Comic Con trailer. I was so miffed that it was “just Wolverine” and all. Cut to the announcements of Sabertooth and GAMBIT and I was a little more pumped. Then the comic con trailer and I was like “so there” – Gambit is fucken badass in it! I can’t wait until the trailer is actually released this coming week I believe.
I’ve given some thought into the Vampire Academy novels, but haven’t picked any up yet. Still considering it. I suppose I wanna finish Breaking Dawn first. I bought the book the day it came out, I got an email saying how bad it was gonna suck from some people who read spoilers, and I admit it put me off. Then my Twilight hype got higher so I decided to start reading again, I read one chapter and stopped. Lol. I know I can’t tell, but I just got caught up with other things. I *will* finish it, I suppose I need to pick it up soon now that my hype is at a peek and I might be more inclined to reading it. Not that the first chapter was bad, hello it’s only a few pages, but I have such fickle interest for books… I’ll let you know if I do finish it. It took me two days to read the first book, about a week and a half for the second and the third about 1 / 1/2 months as I was only reading it on my work breaks. I don’t know, I’ve never been as hooked like on the first few chapters of Twilight. In fact I’ve been itching to re-read it and freshen the novel vs film in my memory. But wanna finish BD first – finish would mean I’m actually reading it though which I really haven’t been, lol.
i totally broke down and treated myself to shadow kiss on friday
i’m about halfway through and i love it so far.
i also went and saw twilight on saturday. we should talk…let’s just say, as a movie, i loved it. i should have seen the movie before reading the books, though.
as far as breaking dawn, it is good, but….hmm…i don’t know, i think things didn’t happen the way i would have liked, but at the same time, i’m not the author who’s making a bajillion dollars off 4 books.
love ya gal!
p.s. i finished uglies, and i can’t WAIT to get pretties and continue with that series. it’s very intriguing
Mycah: It’s really, really yummy and you totally have to try it. It takes about 2 hours to prepare, but it’s worth it. Just remember to use fresh herbs, they make a big difference and make your whole house smell wonderful. It’s a great holiday dish, but you could serve it pretty much anytime with anything.
I finally saw the trailer yesterday and holy crap, Taylor is going to be awesome as Gambit.
The VA books are really good. They’re different from the standard vampire stories too and I think you’ll like them. Definitely finish Breaking Dawn first though. I’m getting a little farther into it now and am not really sure how I feel about it yet. It seems like a lot is happening in a short time and it’s a little weird that part of it is in Jacob’s perspective too, but I’m going to try and continue to hold judgment until I read some more.
Darie: Yay for reading Shadow Kiss! I’m knew you’d love it. Can’t wait to hear your thoughts once you finish it. We’ll have to email about it though because Riikka and Mycah haven’t read them yet and I don’t want to accidentally spoil them.
Yay for seeing Twilight! I can’t wait to hear your thoughts on that either. I’ll call you this week and we can catch up.
At least you weren’t one of the people who loathed Breaking Dawn. As I mentioned to Mycah above, I’m not sure what to make of it thus far. Everything is happening so fast and it’s a little weird to me.
I shall pick up Uglies/Pretties/Specials series very soon then. You should read Peeps and The Last Days when you finish that series if you’re in the mood for more Scott Westerfeld. I’d like to hear what you think of them.
